Another recent order from our desk: the MONOGATARI SERIES × Kei Mochizuki bromide set, three prints from one of the most talked-about illustrator collaborations Japan has run in the last couple of years.

MONOGATARI SERIES x Kei Mochizuki bromide set of three collaboration prints

About the collaboration

The collaboration pairs NISIOISIN's MONOGATARI SERIES with illustrator Kei Mochizuki, who produced brand-new artwork of nine of the series' best-known characters — Koyomi Araragi, Shinobu Oshino, Ougi Oshino, Yotsugi Ononoki, Mayoi Hachikuji, Nadeko Sengoku, Tsubasa Hanekawa, Hitagi Senjougahara and Suruga Kanbaru.

The line first appeared at a limited-run pop-up shop held at Loft stores in Ikebukuro, Yokohama and Umeda between January and February 2025, with a wider release following in June.

If you know Kei Mochizuki's work, you know why this pairing landed. His style leans hard into contemporary streetwear — layered outfits, sharp linework, a colour sense that is closer to a fashion editorial than a typical anime key visual. Dropping that onto a cast this iconic produced something that looks nothing like standard Monogatari merchandise, which is exactly the appeal.

About the set

Bromides are small photographic-quality prints, and they are one of the better formats for collaboration artwork like this. The illustration is reproduced at high resolution on photo stock, and because they are flat and lightweight, they are easy to frame, easy to display, and very easy to ship overseas.

This particular set contains three prints.

Why these are hard to get outside Japan

Pop-up and event goods are the single most difficult category of Japanese merchandise to buy from abroad. Runs are small, sales windows are short, most storefronts do not ship internationally, and once the event closes the item simply stops existing at retail. Everything after that is the secondary market.

That is where a proxy service comes in. We buy from Japanese retail, event storefronts and the domestic secondary market on your behalf, then consolidate and ship worldwide.
